The JMU Marching Royal Dukes

The Marching Royal Dukes are renowned for their exceptional logistical coordination and vibrant community spirit. Being able to have such a strong community for 500 members performing active music on the field is a difficult task, and every year we have excelled. The numbers grow each year and so does the community and support. A group like this is hard to find, and is an unforgettable experience.

JMU Wind Symphony

I’ve had the privilege of performing in JMU’s premier woodwind, brass, and percussion ensemble, The JMU Wind Symphony. The symphony is is committed to performing some of the greatest works of the band world, while also exploring new contemporary compositions and venues. The group is led by Dr. Christopher Cicconi and has hosted on-campus resident composer’s Matthew Maslanka and Johan de Meij. The group also premièred Matthew Maslanka’s, Bright Star, written in honor of Stephen Bolstad. In addition, the group was selected to perform at the CBDNA conference at the University of South Florida in 2026.

JMU Chamber Orchestra

I’ve played with the The JMU Chamber Orchestra, which is comprised of string, wind, brass, and percussion musicians, and presents up to 5 performances each year. This consists of communal performances in local senior residential centers. Rehearsals happen 3 times each week and are directed by Dr. Kira Omlechenko.
